Visiting Stanthorpe again
This weekend (24-25 May) I was in Stanthorpe again but this time I went there with Taylan, my brother-in-law Faruk, and his son-in-law Cem. This time we stayed in Granite Belt Retreat, in two timber cabins.
Here below you see Taylan and I at the entrance to the retreat:

On Saturday, when we arrived at Stanthorpe, we had lunch at Little Larder.
I had Turkish Eggs, which is based on the Turkish dish Çılbır but with some embellishments like the addition of sucuk (a kind of Turkish choriso).
After lunch, there was still time before they would check us in. We used the time to go down to Symphony Hill winery in Eukey. Taylan bought a bottle of Amphora to drink together that evening. I mentioned this wine in my previous post on Stanthorpe. The wine was fermented in unglazed terra cotta pots. It was $150 a bottle but Taylan was curious to see if terra cotta made a difference so he bought a bottle. He also bought another bottle made using grapes brought in from France. He will keep it in his cellar. Faruk and I bought two bottles of Cab Sav each. We had a wine session before dinner drink the Amphora and Cab Sav. The Cab Sav was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The interior of a stainless steel tank is shown below:
We all four thought that the two wines were distinctly different. Apart from the difference in grapes, there was a pleasant and persistent aftertaste in the mouth for Amphora.
On the way back to Brisbane, we made a detour to visit Queen Mary Falls. Here we are on the viewing platform. The photo was taken by Cem using his drone:
Here is the video from Cem’s drone:
Then we drove back to Brisbane through Boonah and Ipswich.
